For all you fashion fanatics who don’t have the means or a source to slake that thirst for that latest piece from that latest… you get the general idea! A big hello and I feel for you amigos. I’m your very own college fashion reporter- wannabe fashionista, part time model, quarter time law student and most of the time internet fashion junkie. I’ve always gotten ribbed about “my other life” a little unfairly, if not unexpectedly by my friends from law school. Another one of those “expectedlies” is not actually wanting to be a fashionista until very recently. Leaning towards a life of academics and dismissing everything else on the periphery as frivolous is not an experience that’s new to most of us.
But I’ve always believed in what Coco Chanel used to say—“ Fashion is not something that exists in dresses only. Fashion is the sky, is in the street, Fashion has to do with ideas, the way we live, what is happening ”
Inspired directly by that phrase from only the most celebrated lady of fashion this column professes to be a funny, slightly whimsical, overtly wishful, highly educative, all in all a generally illuminative take on fashion-rock, chic, sophisticated, pop, grunge, metal, pastel, wild, crazy, unwearable, wearable, confusing yet compulsively fascinating fashion.
The runways and celebrities alike make us all want to be a little spectacular sometimes. We’d all like to say “Why don’t I slip out and get into something more spectacular!!” and mean it, just like Liberace. But we all know that runway fashion is ridiculous on people in public; not to mention grossly expensive.
You’re in college and you’ve just starting to develop a wardrobe – a closet full of clothes that will last you not only your 3 or so years of university, but on into “the real world”, you’ll want to keep up with trends. Everybody wants to look good and no one wants to not look good in college! I hear you! Take Heart all you depressed, despondent fatalists…there is hope!
